    We have a new challenge and this one is issued by Sue:
    "Since I've just finished my highschool career I thought it would be cool to have a fan fic challenge that relates to the members of the 58th and what they were like when they were in high school.

    1. The challenge can only be about the 58th, and can be in about any particular time in high school (i.e. prom, graduation, etc)

    2. The story must be written in a "flashback" only

    3. The story must be believable, and can only be written about one character's experiences during his/her time in high school. This probably leaves out Hawkes, and McQueen.. sorry.. :S

    4. Rating's no higher than Pg 13. I know we've all done bad things back then, but there are things that should be just left out...

    5. To up the word limit, lets make it 3000 words this time.

    6. Deadline ends 24th August 2003"

    Due to a broken arm, some personal probs and just all in all FUBAR in real life, I'm a bit late with putting up the challenge fics. This time only three entries but they are all good so please read and vote HERE :)

    A New Challenge, this time by Robin:

    1. Topic- Pets specifically as would pertain to members of the 58th. They can be any and all pets with none off-limits. They must be believable, though [sorry, no tribbles!].

    2.The period- can be set before, during or after the 58th's being on the 'Saratoga'. If you would wish for pets to be on a carrier during wartime, please try and make a legitimate reason for why an animal would be permitted. If you would want to talk about West's gerbils ten years before he ever joined the Corps, that's fine. If you want to finagle a way a dog might happen on and become a pet of somebody on the 'Toga, that is fine as well. All periods are acceptable.

    3. Rating- nothing higher than PG-13. Hard to have or want steamy sex scenes with a macaw commenting about it from a corner perch. The stories can range from serious to humorous, from planet-based to 'Toga-based, from one person's pet to the whole squadron's. It is wide-open on this one.

    4. Word limit- I'm opting for 2,000 since it'd be nice to make a little, good story.

    5. Judging- I like the way the last challenge was decided with all members submitting a vote for the stories they like best. Could we do it here?

    6. Time Limit- could we say a deadline of May 14th?

    7. Where to post- Geez, I know Una took care of the last one [makes Bambi eyes that plead for forgiveness and perhaps to ask a favor] would she mind doing it again? Or I guess you could post them at the 'Files' section for temporary scrutiny.

    I know that an author or two at the FanFic Flightdeck may have already written a story along the lines of what I'm proposing but I'd like to give this a go. I don't think this topic has ever come up for a short-story challenge before [if it has, SHOOT ME!].

    So please folks, let's get cracking ;-)

    Challenge time is upon us again - this time MAIL CALL by Phyllis, the Lattelady

    RULES:

    1. Takes place during Dear Earth.

    2. The challenge is to write a letter that is recieved by any of the main characters. The letter can be sad, happy, funny, serious, or just newsy. Keep in mind that in a mail call, a number of letters can be recieved at once, so no matter what letters were mentioned in the episode, the Marines could have recieved others from the same people.

    3. You will need to not only wirte the letter, but enough of a background story so that it makes sense AND craft a reply!

    4. At least 1000 words. Rating no hotter than PG-13.

    End of Challenge is the 31st March, 2003 - midnight Central European Time. All challenges will be featured on this site and ppl can vote which is the best. The 1st and 2nd winner will get a nice graphic for their challenge themed on its story (or a desktop wallpaper if you like).

    We all need a little holiday spirit this year, so here is my challenge.
    Write a Thanksgiving and/or Christmas (December holiday) story that takes place in the year 2064, that means, after Tell Our Moms....
    1. It must be at least 1000 words
    2. Rating no higher than PG13 (so all can read it)
    3. And contain the name of a Holiday song, not used as a song title.
    Example: It sure is a Silent Night out there. Not, and they all sang Silent Night.
